Mid March Update

Published: 15th March 2026

I've been fairly conscious that i've not written a new update for a while. At this point I realise that they may only be every month and with that in mind I wont begin any new posts touching on the infrequency.

I can only really think of a few worthwhile things to write about. I realise I could waffle about topics in my bubble that are more opinion formed but I wish to avoid anything that would cause me to feel a little hopeless about things. I realise it can be useful to write these thoughts to work through but as it is public facing I don't want to cause any bother to those who happen upon these posts.

So updating on Jasper the cat, he had his last appointment at the beginning of March and he is slowly improving in the right direction and I expect by May we will have got everything just right for him. It will be a huge relief when I get there and I think the same for him also. I wish I could convey that I have his best interests at heart as he of course finds the visits very stressful.

I've started going on small jogs over the past month. It was difficult to begin with and still a struggle now but it has been very good for building up muscle in the legs which I definitely lost a lot of duing the winter season. The greatest benefit has been much better blood glucose control and my average has dropped and is dropping to a nice level. I'm able to eat more too which is of course is enjoyable. I wanted to ramp up my exercise knowing that my annual diabetic check is coming up a little later in the year. I've managed to turn things around in the past few years and my results have been positive but I am hoping this year the results will be better still and I think that will be quite encouraging. The weather will improve my mood as we slowly move towards summer and I can't wait to start spending my mornings again in the garden with a coffee and the cats.

Looking forward into what I want to achieve this year and I want to get my things organised. The loft space needs a better system so i'm going to buy some multi level storage units. The other task is backing up my physical media, mostly optical media, so at some point i'm going to invest in a NAS device and some large capacity hard drives. I'm a bit paranoid of disc rot going forward and I don't want to leave it until I regret it. I'll also be able to store the physical media out of the way after the process is done which is quite an appealing idea with the limited space I have to play with.

I also want to build out a counter strike 2 map this year as i've started playing with the development kit and using the Source 2 engine Hammer software. It's a big paradigm shift to what i'm used to but i'm looking forward to becoming more competent and having something nice to show for it before the year closes. Speaking of Valve, I really wish them success with their new hardware line up, it will be refreshing to have a new competitor to the console space.

For now though I think will be a good place to end the entry, type it up and get it online. All the best!
